Day 7 – Just limp a little when you get out of the car

March 20, 2014

Flex day

Today was a much-needed flex day, and the group split up 4 ways.

March Madness double header:
James and a boatload of the kids (Connor, Riley, Matthew and Jack) went to Orlando to see Pittsburgh (9) v Colorado (8) and Albany (16) v Florida (1). Pittsburgh and Florida won.

Go Gators!

Golfing:
Andrew, Jackson and Mason headed out for 18 holes of golf. Gator got to play a ball next to a pretty large gator that was hanging out by the water hazard. He never did say how that particular shot went …

I’ll just play through, if you don’t mind?

Lounging at the mansion:
Jeff, Jane, Tyron stayed at the house to enjoy the sun and read books. Looks like Jeff and Jane are the first of the spouse-swapping! Carson also stayed back because he was unfortunately not feeling well and had to give up the basketball games to his great disappointment. Ultimately, he spent the entire day sleeping so it was probably for the best.

Epcot:
With our extra days of Disney park passes, Risa, Sofia, Dave, Andi, Dave, Jen and Mitchell spent the afternoon at Epcot, where we enjoyed a liesurely stroll through the various “countries”, stopping in the shops in France and Germany, taking in the 360 degree film in Canada (quite good, hosted by Martin Short), and finishing off with the Spaceship Earth ride through the big Epcot dome. This was a very good ride, travelling through history up to the present day and into the future, ending with a very entertaining look at a possible future world where a photo of your head is superimposed on cartoon characters – super funny! The day was extremely hot – 27 degrees – and even an easy walk through the park turned out to be exhausting.

Prost!

The Epcot crew stopped at the market for a few necessary groceries and Andi made some delicious spaghetti for dinner. With the pool basically out of commission because of the broken filter, and a few of the kids starting to feel unwell, we decided to take it easy and watch a movie. First choice was Midnight in Paris, but after the audio-visual expert (Jeff) couldn’t get Dave’s iPad Mini to play the movie, we switched to The Big Lebowski. Best scene was the Dude’s car getting towed after he parked in the handicapped parking spot. Just like Andrew.

Meltdown count: 0
Breakdown count: 1 (pool, still)
Rundown count: 1 (Carson)
