Day 9 – The Case of the Missing Cheese Pizza

March 22, 2014

Flex Day

Forecasted lightning in the afternoon lead us to spend today as a flex day and do our last Disney Park day tomorrow. Ultimately, this was lucky as a number of suspected infections resulted in a couple of house-call visits from a medical concierge doctor who diagnosed a number of people with an ear and/or throat bacterial infections. Doctor number one treated Matthew, Connor, Jack and Sofia. Doctor number two treated Riley, Andi and Mason. Pretty much everyone ended up on antibiotics. Educated guesses on the causes range from sleeping on the floor in the boys room to swimming in a pool with a faulty filter pump.

Aside from the clinic aspect, the day was spent walking around the ‘hood, golfing, playing in the games room and using the resort pool and waterpark as a replacement for our contaminated one. We also had a visit from a couple of Sandhill cranes who were out for a walk down the sidewalk in front of the house, making a huge, squacking, prehistoric-sounding racket. They weren’t very pleased at our presence in the driveway and took a couple of alarming steps in our direction before heading on down the sidewalk and eventually to the golf course behind the houses. Just not something you see every day!

Reunion Village Panorama and the Big Brother Mansion

A second visit from Jeeves revealed that the broken pump is actually readily available, and it’s actually because the pool system is under warranty that the part can’t be replaced until Tuesday, the day after we leave. This was the final straw. Over drinks, we began crafting our letter of dissatisfaction to the rental company. To his credit, Jeeves did give Andrew coupons for 2 free Papa Johns pizzas, which ended up taking care of a big part of dinner, where several of the kids broke a cardinal rule by helping themselves to more than one piece of cheese pizza, denying Mason his share. Really, boys, rules are rules! (Jack was nice enough to give one of his up, although when you think about it, he had to break the rule in the first place in order to have one to give up.)

After the Duns’ evening doctor finally cleared out at 10, after a 2 hour house call, we started the heavy lifting of having to finish the excessive amount of pina colada mix that we still have on hand. Dave S made our work more difficult by not surprisingly opting for a margarita. I am seriously going to have to go on a two week alcohol cleanse after this trip is over.

Keep drinking ladies, we have a lot of Pina Colada mix to go!

Meltdown count: 0
Breakdown count: 4 (M’s shower again, another visit from Jeeves the pool man to see if he can at least repair the filter, spare toilet is plugged with no plunger to be found, internet continues to be intermittent.)
Rundown count: 7 (Matthew, Connor, Jack, Sofia, Riley, Mason and possibly Andi)
