My Stompin’ Grounds – SK

Saskatchewan, potash capital of Canada, stretches 650 km and takes 6 1/2 hours to traverse. It is very beautiful, green, peaceful, flat, and monotonous as all get out. There are no overpasses for intersecting highways, presumably because that would take away from the flatness. Instead, minor highways bisect the Trans-Canada at important intersections through which you must slow down to 60 km/h. That’s how these are marked, on the road signs that read: “Important Intersection”. The unimportant intersections you can just blow past at 110.

A straight, flat highway is a dangerous place for wildlife, it seems. Lots and lots and lots of animals fall victim to the Trans-Canada. We saw a fairly alarming number of sadly road-killed deer, prairie dogs, a couple of foxes, and some dark coloured critters we never did identify.

This is our first time ever in the province of Saskatchewan (adding a checkmark to our provinces-visited list), and it was unfortunately timed that we had no need to stay for the night, so we made sure to at least make a couple of stops: once for gas at Moose Jaw, and then again for water at a place called Indian Head. See if you can pick out Indian Head’s subtle blind spot from the gallery below.

The rest of our SK trip can be enjoyed vicariously through this time lapsed view of the drive, through photos taken every 30 mins.

Friends we wish we could have visited along the way: Erin and Ian!

Just take a little piece of P.E.I & old Saskatchewan
Nova Scotia & New Brunswick, we’re back in Newfoundland
Alberta & Manitoba
Ontario & B.C
And you’ll have found the stompin’ grounds of all my friends & me

Okay, I love the “time lapse” of Saskatchewan. Please include roadkill trigger warnings for future blogs!
    Drive safe….
