Barbados – There must always be fishing, but not necessarily fish.

Wednesday April 13. Hello, is Rhianna home?

Jeff and Dave booked a fishing trip today, out in the middle of the ocean in a rickety old boat unequipped with lifejackets and a purposeful corked hole in the bottom. The hole was there so that you could remove the cork to let in some water and thus have a place to store the bait fish. Reasonable, and nothing alarming at all about being in this boat on the ocean, out of sight of land. Andi and I were glad to hear this story after they were safely back at the resort. The trip itself was a fishing shut-out (again) but they did end up getting an excellent sea-based wildlife tour. They got to see all the fish they didn’t catch swimming up at the surface and in some cases jumping out of the water while feeding on flying fish, or basically anything other than their bait.

Andi and I, meanwhile, walked south to visit Rhianna and to see Payne’s beach which was listed as one of the top ten in Barbados. Honestly I don’t know how you would rank beaches here, it seems like they are all 11 out of 10. But the beach was gorgeous, as implied by its ranking.

Rhianna wasn’t in
Payne’s Beach

Rhianna was out, so instead we stopped in at the QP Bistro, formerly The Cliffs restaurant for all you Barbados regulars, and had a lovely cocktail on the edge of the sea.

Back at the resort, we saw the most magnificent sunset yet. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky, so we watched the sun set fully behind the ocean horizon.
